Bon Island.

This little island - 1 km south of Rawai Beach - is a pearl and easily accessible but not very much visited. With a long-tail-boat from Kata we were taken along with all the small beaches and rocky shores to this island. Our captain was a nice man named Chui. He had called by phone to the restaurant and checked that there were some people there.

The owner of the restaurant - an English lady named Joan - met us when we arrived and greeted us wellcome to the island and to her restaurant. She told us what happened to the beach during the tsunami. She and her staff (5 persons) quickly run up into the mountain when they saw the big wave. Before the next wave they observed a lot of fishes landed on the beach. Thus the chef run down and collected them and quickly returned to the mountain before the wave hit again. The only damage they had was two long-tail-boats.

Left: Our captain Chui, the hostess Joan, her staff - Ui, Lai and Sao. Right: the wreck from one of the long-tail-boats that were hit by the tsunami. We advised Joan that she should let the wreck stay as a memory.
